    Indications

    Pharmacology

    Bambuterol is an adrenergic β2 receptor agonist which predominantly stimulates β2 receptor, thus producing relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle, inhibition of release of endogenous spasmogens, inhibition of edema caused by endogenous mediators & increased mucocilliary clearance.

    Dosage and Administration

    How to use Bambuterol Hydrochloride: Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Bambuterol Hydrochloride may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time. Adult Dose: Adult: PO 10-20 mg/day at bedtime. Hepatic impairment: Severe: Not recommended. Renal Dose: Renal impairment: CrCl (ml/min) <50 Initial dose should be halved.

    Interaction

    Risk of hypokalaemia increased by co-admin of corticosteroids, diuretics or xanthines. Prolong the action of drugs e.g. suxamethonium.

    Contraindications

    Severe hepatic impairment; cirrhosis.

    Side Effects

    Common - Insomnia (difficulty in sleeping) - Headache - Palpitations - Restlessness - Muscle cramp - Trembling Fine tremor of skeletal muscle (e.g. hands), palpitations and muscle cramps; tachycardia, tenseness and peripheral vasodilation.

    Pregnancy And Lactation

    Pregnant women: There is no definite evidence of ill consequence during pregnancy. Nevertheless, the drug should not be used during the first trimester of pregnancy, unless the expected benefit is thought to outweigh any possible risk to the fetus.Lactating mother: It is excreted in breast milk. So, patients taking this drug should not breast-feed.

    Precautions And Warnings

    Precaution: DM, hyperthyroidism, myocardial insufficiency, arrhythmias, susceptibility to QT-interval prolongation. Pregnancy.
